Some say a child’s smile is a sight for sore eyes, and there were certainly plenty of those to go around when we participated in the Fire Prevention/Safety Awareness Week at the Premier Academy Kindergarten on Friday 05/02/2016. The week culminated in a Fire Safety talk and presentation, and Securex was honoured to be invited to the school to provide a fitting finale to their program.
We kicked off the day with a Fire Safety talk from Brian Sagala, our Health and Safety Officer, who taught the children what to do in the event of a fire. We then assisted the school staff to conduct a fire drill, monitoring the time taken to evacuate the premises as well as other factors such as panic and the exit routes used. The little angels then got the opportunity to speak to Richard Kitur, one of our fire marshalls, taking time to marvel over his protective gear (and his double-soled shoes in particular).
But what the young ones truly fell in love with was our fire engine. Everyone wanted in on the action, posing for class photographs with it before settling down for a demonstration of a standard response to a distress call from our firemen. Six lucky kids got the chance of a life-time to take a ride inside our fire engine, and given the choice they would probably opt to have all their lessons taught from inside the truck that day!
We were happy to do our part in making Premier Academy a safer place for the angels to learn and play!
