Now we’re aware that it’s New Year’s and not Thanksgiving, but as we come to the end of a great year for the Securex Family, we thought we would engage you in a popular Thanksgiving tradition where we go around the table and we all say what we are thankful for.
We’ve had lots of moments for the highlight reel over the past 12 months, including shared smiles and beautiful memories. We fought fires and foiled foes, armed and unarmed. Ultimately, we played our part in keeping you safe, and that alone means we’ve had a fantastic 2016.
So what are we thankful for? Here are our best moments of 2016:
- Charles Nderitu and Rose Nyawira:
We began the year with the feel-good story of Charles Nderitu, who began his career at Securex 13 years ago as a guard. Just how much can one achieve in 13 years? Well, Charles earned back-to-back promotions from guard to Site-in-Charge, to Field Officer, to Deployment Officer, to Zone Manager, and finally to Manager of Manned Guarding!
Rose Nyawira also plotted a similar course for herself, rising from guardette to Site-in-Charge to Field Officer and, in her latest promotion, to Contract Manager at Unilever Kenya. These two set the tone (and the standard) for the rest of the year!
- Securex Scholarship Program:
In February, we held the third edition of our scholarship program which we started in 2014. As part of the program, we select five children of our uniformed section staff who have excelled in their academics and Securex pays all their secondary school fees. This year we got to meet lovely, ambitious, and visionary children like Corazon, who would like to be a doctor, and Moses Momanyi, who dreams of being a pilot one day. Warms the heart doesn’t it?
- Securex Bike Loan Scheme:
Started in 2016, the Bike Loan Scheme saw our supervisory staff allowed to own motorbikes outright as they paid only a fraction of the original cost over a 2-year period. The revolutionary scheme also led to faster response for our clients as it increased the mobility of our operations teams. 50 bikes were given out in this first phase.
- Kenya Kabaddi National Team:
Before we sponsored the national team in April, most Kenyans had not even heard of “Kabaddi” before. We partnered with the Kenya Kabaddi Association to hold the inaugural Securex Kabaddi Tournament in April at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani. The tourney marked the beginning of preparations for the Kabaddi World Cup in October. The national team went on to light up the international stage, registering three wins over Poland, Japan, and the USA in the group stages of Kabaddi’s showpiece event.
- Securex Moves to 9-Riverside:
Now, if you haven’t heard this story yet, pull up a chair, grab a bag of popcorn, then call your grandparents and ask them who “Kishorilal Sahni” or “Simba” is. You’d be surprised, but they might tell you he retired from the police force in 1970 as an Inspector before he founded Securex Agencies LTD. Back then, he only had two members on the staff and he had to double up as C.E.O. and driver as he moved from assignment to assignment.
We started out in a small office on Moi Avenue, but by 1996 we had an entire building to ourselves as we moved to the Securex Place in Parklands. That was our home for 20 years, so it was quite difficult to say goodbye when we moved into the ultra-modern 9-Riverside Building on Riverside Drive in May 2016.
- German Shepherd Dog League:
We participated in five East Africa Kennel Club dog shows in 2016 and our team was able to maintain our stellar record. Our best performance came in August during the German Shepherd Dog League, where we scooped six major awards, including the overall “Best in Show.”
The other awards that we took home include “Best Bitch in Show-CC,” “Best Bitch in Show-RCC,” and “Best Novice Dog”.
- 24-Hour Contact Centre:
“Every great business is built on friendship. Our customers are like family to us.”-Hellen Mutuga, Securex Customer Experience Executive.
We figure that we’re good listeners, in fact, we’re great listeners. And since we care for you so much, we decided we’ll be here for you around the clock when we opened our 24-hour contact centre in August!
- Securex Rolls Out New Alarm Response Packages:
We are continually looking for ways of providing additional value to our esteemed clients. Our Research and Development team works around the clock to deliver valuable, yet cost-effective product and service offerings for our customers. Our latest services saw us partner with the Red Cross, AA-Kenya, and AMREF to roll out new alarm response packages. Our new alarm response packages now feature aerial medical evacuation, roadside rescue, ambulance services, as well as free security escort services!
- Securex Heroes Save the Day… Everyday!
Everyday, our guards and alarm response crews give us a new reason to be proud to be a part of the Securex family. In keeping you safe, we’ve had great stories to share this year, from when one of our crews rescued an unconscious 9-month old baby, her mother and house help from a house full of carbon monoxide fumes to when our heroes in blue put out a fire at a high-rise commercial building in Nairobi’s CBD. Here’s to the real MVPs in 2016!
- End-of-Year Party:
We closed the year out with our End-of-Year party! More than just a party though, this was a celebration of every highlight and moment we’ve had over the past 12 months. From the smiles we put on the little ones at Premier Academy when we went calling with our fire engine in February, to interacting with customers during our sales drives and exhibitions at the Junction and Syokimau Trade Expo, to all the children (and a few adults) who nervously came up to take selfies with our dogs Apollo and Kelly when we were at the Hub-Karen in September, and to everyone who paid us a compliment this year.
To all those we welcomed into the Securex family this year, and to those whose support we’ve counted on over the years, we say “Asante.”
Let’s do this all over again in 2017!
